Canon support code 5B00: waste ink absorber full

5B00 means the waste ink counter hit its limit. The absorber needs attention, not just a reset.

   Understand the code

   Every cleaning cycle pumps ink into an absorber pad. 5B00 is the counter saying the pad is estimated full.

   Try the standard reset first

   Unplug for 60 seconds and power on. If 5B00 returns immediately, the counter must be reset.

   Enter service mode

   With the printer off, hold Stop/Reset, press Power, release Stop/Reset, then press Stop/Reset five times and release both.

   Reset the counter with service software

   A service tool can zero the waste ink counter. Use it only after checking the pad is not actually saturated.

5. 5

   Replace the absorber if saturated

   If ink is pooling, the pad must be replaced or the printer will leak. A service centre can do this cheaply.
