Printer says ready but nothing prints

A stuck spooler, the wrong default printer or a paused queue cause most of these cases.

Printer says ready but nothing prints
  1. 1

Check you are printing to the right device

Virtual printers like 'Microsoft Print to PDF' are often the default and silently swallow jobs.

  2. 2

    Clear the queue

Open the print queue and cancel all documents, then restart the spooler service.

  3. 3

Print a self test from the panel

If the self test prints, the printer hardware is fine and the problem is on the computer.

  4. 4

    Reinstall the driver

Remove the printer, delete the driver package from Print Server Properties, then install the latest driver from the manufacturer.

  5. 5

Try a different cable or port

For USB, use a rear port directly on the machine and a cable under 2 metres.
